Florida Caverns State Park

Updated: Nov 28, 2021

We started off our journey to Alabama by visiting two state parks in the panhandle Florida: Florida Cavern State Park and we will end up camping at Fall Waters State Park.

Florida Caverns was extraordinary.

The Weather

We ended up going on a trip with tropical storm Barry in our radar. Even though skies was grey the caverns itself was beautiful weather. If you never been to Florida and don't know what it feels like to have 80-100% humidity, just think about stepping into a sauna and sweating immediately. That's how it feels. Now imagine stepping out of the sauna and stepping into a cave that is 60-70 degree weather. Yes, it's like a breath of fresh air!

This alone gives the perfect trip for kids under the age of three.

The History

While moving between the large underground rooms, one can observe the many chisel marks made by 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps workers.
