Joshua 2:1-24
Salvation is a decision. An important decision we make in some time of our lives. We either accept it or not.
In Joshua 2:1-7, two spies entered the land that God promised the Israelites. They were there to scope out the land and report back what they saw. They were staying at Rahab’s house. Once the King found out they were spies, he sends out orders to Rahab to bring the men out, but she decided to hide them. She told the men that the spies was there earlier but didn’t know where they went.
Before we move on let’s talk about Rahab.
Rahab was a harlot. She was a sinner. She knew that she was a sinner because she ended asking the Israelites to save her for what was about to happen.
In Joshua 2:9-12, she says “I know the Lord has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. 10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea[b] when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.[c] 11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.
12 “Now swear to me by the Lord that you will be kind to me and my family since I have helped you. Give me some guarantee that 13 when Jericho is conquered, you will let me live, along with my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all their families.”
She did three things:
She knew that the Lord is the King of all Kings
Made a decision for accepting salvation and asked for it in boldness even though she knew she was a sinner
Then she asked for her family and their families will be saved from what was to come!
The spies agreed and promised for her safety and to be saved. They gave her instructions to leave a scarlet rope hanging from a window but all of her family members has to be inside the house because anyone outside will be killed.
Then she sent them away and they departed.
Here is the important information from the bible, the spies never once told her to when the event was going to happen. Never once told her how it was going to happen. All they told her was to take a scarlet cord and bind it to a window. Then go and get all of your family in this house because anyone outside the house will die.
You know what she did?
She did not wait
She departed and did exactly what the spies told her. She gathered her family and told them of the news
This is the first glimpse of salvation of what was to come of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the Son of God. She knew she was saved in her house, but she needed to get as much of family members as she can so that they can be saved. I’m sure not everyone went in the house but I do believe she tried her best.
The walls of Jericho fell down and Rahab and her family was not touched! Joshua sent the two men who spied the country back in for Rahab and her family.
Joshua 6: 22-25:
22 But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23 And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel. 24 But they burned the city and all that was in it with fire. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
Because of her faithfulness, she was spared as well as her family who was in her house. She was also in the bloodline of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Matthew 1:1-6
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
1 The book of the genealogy[a] of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
2 Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. 3 Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. 4 Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. 5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, 6 and Jesse begot David the king.
Now I ask you:
Are you in the house? If so, who are you bringing with you? Jesus is coming. We have to be prepared. We have to tell everyone of the warning. We have to tell everyone the salvation plan on how to be saved of what is coming. We don’t know when nor do we know exactly how, but we do know Jesus is coming.
Are you in the house?
